A EUROPEAN monarch hidden away in a humble Darwin suburb is selling titles to raise money.
King Roman, 71, of Coconut Grove, said many monarchs over the centuries had sold nobilities and he can provide a range of honours from knighthoods and baronetcies to duchies and lesser kingdoms.
His “Imperial Majesty” said he discovered in 1992 that his father had been the Grand Duke of Lithuania and as such he had inherited title to about 30 countries and principalities, The NT News reports.
This made him “ruler” over large swathes of Eastern Europe, as Grand Duke of Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine and the Count of Lubraniec, he said.
King Roman (formerly plain old Ron Mann), who can trace his  titular pedigree through his Polish-born father to a Prince Wladislaw, also has the right to grant titles – which he confers by Letters Patent, he said.
That doesn’t impress the Immigration Department, which has refused to renew his passport because it will not issue passports under a name that purports to be a title not recognised by the Commonwealth.
Still, it hasn’t deterred King Roman’s grand ambitions.
For a fee he will help the humble yeomanry rise. Fr $100 you can buy the right to be called Knight of the Order of the Amethyst.
He said he was raising money to federate Lithuania, Belarus and the Ukraine in a constitutional royal alliance.
He also wants to raise money for charities such as Unicef.
